Photo manipulation has been around since the very beginning of photography, even before we had digital tools like Photoshop. It plays a significant role in shaping how people see the world by changing what’s real. This report will look at some famous examples of altered images, why they were changed, and how we can spot these fakes.
Abraham Lincoln's Portrait: One of the earliest known cases of photo manipulation features Abraham Lincoln. In this instance, Lincoln’s head was placed on the body of another man, John C. Calhoun, to create a more heroic image of the president. This was done because there weren’t any pictures of Lincoln that captured him in a heroic light at that time.
